For a class we had to design and make a machine that brought back old technology or created new technology. I felt as though books were being written off (pardon the pun). And I wanted to utilize old books that were just laying around and create something from them.
I wanted to create a book lamp, literally. One that would sit on the wall and have light protruding through the pages. My first step was to fold pages in ways to create a pattern.
Next step was to cut into the spine and about one fourth of the way into the book to create a space for LED light.
Last step was to thread fishing wire through all the pages so that they would stay in place. Although the pages became too think for the light to show through each and every page, it created a nice interaction piece for someone to flip through the pages and manipulate the direction of the light.
